Cancel culture is removing of support in response to their objectionable behavior or opinions, whether at present or in the past.
This can include but not limited to boycotts, refusal to promote their work or business and loss of employment.


Why cancel the cancel culture?
And I think this is the problem with cancel culture...

4 reasons to cancel 'cancel culture'

1. It seemingly justifies insulting people

it seemingly justifies insulting people, demeaning people, ostracising, ridiculing and bullying people. We see unnecessary and hurtful words being said, being flooded with hate comments.

That’s why cancel culture can be toxic
Sadly, at times, that’s how cancel culture works

2. It assumes the person who made the wrong hasn’t grown

Sometimes, the people are being cancelled because of what they did 10 years ago or maybe a tweet or post 5 years ago.
What they did or said might be wrong, but it doesn’t mean they haven’t changed.

People change. Perspectives change.

3. It has a silencing effect

We don’t want to rack the boat with our dissenting opinion
Instead of voicing it out, we just keep silent.

That’s also the problem with cancel culture

4. It has an emotional satisfaction of putting someone down

We feel good because we are putting a “bad” man or “bad” woman down.
We want cancel culture—until we’re the ones getting cancelled.
Until we are the ones being put down.
