Do you live in a rental? Look up. Chances are, if you haven't already given your home a serious makeover, you're currently staring at one of those ugly, builder-grade, flush-mount light fixtures. You know the ones—they come in all styles, from flat, modern rounds to more intricate designs with shiny fake brass and offensive finials. Bottom line, though: They're all ugly. Plus, they're a waste of what could be an opportunity for a design statement. But if swapping light fixtures feels like too big an undertaking, fear not—Mikel Welch is here to help.

Materials List:
Painter's tape
Spray paint
Screwdriver
Power Drill
Starburst mirror (make sure the mirror frame is slightly larger than your flush-mount light). Welch used this one from Wayfair: https://tinyurl.com/y4fuk5dp
Glass shade (optional)—if you like the shape of the glass shade on your existing fixture, no need to swap!
New flush-mount (also optional; you can paint your existing one if you like the shape! Welch used this one.) https://tinyurl.com/yxzrjnwp
Spray paint (Welch opted for a matte black, but you can do whatever color you like—even a metallic could be fun.)
