"I am Natrasha (Jamie Hutton). I’m a drag queen that is heavily inspired by art. Dynamic textures, fun fashion. I like to be a visual art form brought to life a little bit. I like to be a walking, talking, actual illusion. I think I've been doing drag for ten years now in Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland."

What does it take to fashion a drag persona? The performance art form is a cocktail of fabulousness and facade, one that demonstrates the transformative power of fashion. While the drag has a distinctive paradigm, it’s also highly individualised, expressed through outfits, wigs and makeup to tell a unique story.

Through stunning photography by Denise Baynham and personal stories from each performer, this exhibition explores how drag performers transform identity through fashion, one show-stopping outfit at a time.

Co-curated by NZ photographer Denise Baynham and drag pioneer Edward Cowley (Buckwheat) for the New Zealand Fashion Museum, this exhibition celebrates the heart of drag: self-expression, community, and the love that goes into every transformation.
