No trees are being cut down for the development of a metro car shed in Mumbai's Aarey Forest, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. has notified the Supreme Court. In his appearance on behalf of MMRCL, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the top court that no trees have been felled in the Aarey Colony since 2019 and promised that none would be until the next hearing date. The complaint filed against the removal of trees was scheduled for hearing on August 10 after the Supreme Court admitted the statement into the record. A plea from law student Rishav Ranjan to the Chief Justice of India in 2019 asking for a halt to the cutting down of trees in Aarey was taken up by the SC on a suo moto basis.
