Welcome back to Chimney Creek Farm — where the sunflowers are tall, the chicks are growing fast, and the zucchini need more attention than we can give them.

In this slow and steady mid-summer update, I take you through the honest rhythms of our off-grid life: pruning and staking zucchini, picking ripe tomatoes, saving seeds from bush beans and sugar snap peas, and taking rosemary and native mint cuttings with raw honey. We also make small but steady progress on our upgraded solar battery house — and I’ve started painting the door with a surprise design. Can you guess what it is?

Paul braves the hot midday sun to shovel and sift sand for the shed floor, while our dog Truffles enjoys the cool spot she creates. There are storms on the horizon, smoke from nearby bushfires, and a few surprises in the garden — including hares, fading sunflowers, and tomato plants that need a little extra care.

We also share some personal news — I’ve just received a scholarship to begin studying the Diploma of Sustainable Living, and I look forward to sharing everything I learn with you here.
