Not only were they around the $10 mark, but they are very comfortable and thick enough to block out a lot of wind and weather effects. While they might not stop a sub-zero blizzard they will perform for most conditions that people will encounter.

If you're going to see a lot of moisture you should be looking at something with Gore-Tex anyways - I prefer these for runs in the sub 30F to 0F temperature range where I need to stay warm but don't need massive amounts of heat retention.

Overall I have found the Fox River Ragg mittens to be very easy to wear, and even when I'm a little warm and my hands heat up I've just tossed them into the washing machine and dryer and they are ready to go again.

The price point is also handy - if they get really beat up or nasty through a season you can easily replace them. So far I've washed them numerous times and taken them out on the road and trail in snowy and windy conditions and been very happy.
