Warm Audio WA19 test. (On EVERYTHING!)

Here's a rough instrumental mix of "(Sorry) Can I Please Come Home" from my ‪@WarmAudioOfficial‬ WA19 microphone tryout session yesterday. It's accompanied by some happy snaps from the studio. Full video soon!

Everything here is presented raw with no post processing apart from a limiter on the mixbuss. All instruments were recorded WA19 - Sony MXP 280 console - @analogue_addicts REDD 47 pre - Art VLA2 compressor (mostly in bypass apart from electric guitars). Bit of panning in the DAW and that's it. A few sloppy bits need editing.

The song is an old one of mine from 2008 originally written for a short lived beat band called The New Birdmen which was sort of proto-Poppermost. I later recorded a version at @thebarnesociety with The Privates Hammond Orchestra and @mrea for a 7" single on ‪@Recordkicks‬ .You can find that recording on Spotify etc. That's a fun version but I'm pleased to bring it on home to The Poppermost with an arrangement more in keeping with how it was intended.

I videoed all the tracking faff and recorded vocals and aim to get that out tomorrow, all tidied up and "nice" but thought it was good to present a "warts and all" instrumental to hear the WA19 in honest action. I really like it on pretty much everything! (Vocals not convinced yet, more on that later!) I was surprised by its performance on kick and bass amp duties. Tidy low end! Acoustic, percussion, electric guitars all sit really well and I think I could improve the overall drum balance with a bit more time but it captures the snare really nice on single overhead.

I recommend this mic and I wish it had existed twenty years ago! I think @akgaudio fell asleep at the wheel by not reissuing a faithful D19 and while this isn't exactly like the original mic it has a similar vibe and is possibly even more versatile. It does a thing. You won't be second guessing if it's working properly and it won't break the bank either. I really like it. 👍
