The Tanfield Railway Freight event in February was a captivating experience that showcased the region's railway heritage in all its glory. The highlight of the event was the National Coal Board liveried No 49, a powerful RSH 0-6-0ST steam locomotive that hauled mixed passenger and freight trains between Andrew's House and East Tanfield.
Passengers were treated to a unique and unforgettable journey as they rode on the vintage train, taking in the breathtaking scenery and enjoying the soothing sounds of the steam engine. The train ride was a throwback to a bygone era when steam trains were the backbone of the transportation industry.
In addition to the train ride, visitors were also treated to shunting demonstrations by the RSH 0-4-0ST Sir Cecil A. Cochrane in the Marley Hill yard.
