Message Notes:

James 1:1 ESV
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes in the Dispersion: Greetings.

James 1:2-4 ESV
2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

JOY is a mindset centered around a future with God.

Romans 8:28 ESV
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Colossians 3:1-4 ESV
1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

Trials EXPOSE our true self.

When we stop ENDURING, we stop MATURING.

James 1:5-8 ESV
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Knowledge gives us information; wisdom leads to TRANSFORMATION.

Our SOURCE of wisdom is the Holy Spirit.

In the middle of a trial, we recognize God's position over it, enabling us to discover joy within it and gain the wisdom to navigate through it.
