I've played Costume Quest 1 and loved it. The story was neat and the combat was right up my alley. I especially like the turn-based combat with abilities similar to the traditional Final Fantasy style. Going around the maps solving puzzles and finding out what to do is also fun. However, sometimes, it gets challenging.

One thing I didn't really like from Costume Quest 2 was the implementation of the consumable cards in battle. I prefer the prequel where equipped cards were used to augment your characters rather having to waste a turn in combat to use a card that sets up the next couple turns. I find it is much better to just use all three character's attacks to deal the most amount of damage.

Another thing that I thought was redundant was the Strong / Weak nature of each type of character. If I were to use the effective trait on multiple enemies, it would result in my characters getting damaged by them all. If there were 3 enemies, they would each get a turn to attack me. If I focused all my attacks on 1 enemy to ensure the kill, I would only take damage from 2 enemies. Therefore, making the Strong/Weak nature sort of useless. You would also need to memorize what enemy types are what, so maybe you can set up against them prior to fighting.

The puzzle solving in Costume Quest 2 was a little easier than Costume Quest 1 but maybe it is because I've had experience with Costume Quest 1. There was only 1 or 2 sections of the game where I was stuck.

Last thing is that after you get to the underground section, the story expands 3x! You are able to skip the bars/taverns like how I did and complete missions and collect items in different towns before you even "trick-or-treat" the doors. This made it so you are actually progressing but in fact, you are missing a crucial quest. Part of it was due to me not reading dialogue which is important actually.
