An FJ40 in Rare Form

From the grooves of its hardtop to the tread of its tires, this FJ40 has plenty of attitude to spare. It is unapologetically bold, bringing true vintage style to every road and trail placed under its command.

The original owner purchased this FJ40 at a Toyota dealership and was one of the few who opted for a hardtop with corrugated side panels. A manager of a shoe factory, he used this Land Cruiser to transport products and supplies to and from the factory. In the 1980s, this FJ40 was procured by a collector who owned it for several years. Currently, it’s at our shop, undergoing a full nut-and-bolt restoration.

Seeped in authenticity

While we’re always up for a treasure hunt, this FJ40 is already equipped with parts that are nearly impossible to find. The back end features small swing-out doors with a unique rear hatch that can be pushed up and folded horizontally — the only foldable version available on these models. Walk over to the hood and you’ll find a windshield ventilation cover — this one is in perfect working condition, which is rare.

This FJ40's interior is wrapped in Saddle color upholstery, which we will restore, keeping the same retro color. The minimalist dash features a familiar array of switches and gauges.

Built to last

One of the best things about owning a classic Land Cruiser is its time-honored durability. Under the hood, you’ll find the Toyota’s F engine — a formidable warrior with cast-iron blocks and heavy-duty construction. Our shop will perform a complete overhaul of this original engine, as well as the 3-speed transmission.

A cult classic

The FJ40 was the first 40 series model produced by Toyota. The first model, a soft-top, rolled off the line in 1960 — hard tops soon followed in 1961. Popular with enthusiasts, the FJ40’s rugged good looks remained mostly unchanged throughout its 24-year production run.

Because this FJ40 is such a rare collector’s item, we returned this model to near-factory condition.
