This is a recorded conversation with a NASA scientist named Dan Irwin on the SERVIR program which uses NASA satellite data to solve environmental and resource management issues in developing countries around the world.

The SERVIR program is a combined effort of NASA and the US Agency for International Development or USAID. The mission of NASA SERVIR is to aid in sustainable international development with the use of satellite data.

Dan Irwin is the director and co-creator of the SERVIR program at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. SERVIR means to serve in Spanish, Portuguese and French and the program lives up to its name.
Recognized in 2007 as one of the "100 steps toward the Global Earth Observation System of Systems," SERVIR provides key decision-support information by monitoring the land surface, oceans and atmosphere to protect the lives, property and resources of millions of people on four continents.

In 2013, Dan Irwin received a "Recognition of Brilliance" award from the Guatemalan government for improved management of the Guatemalan Protected Areas." In 2008, he also received the prestigious Charles S. Falkenberg Award for significant contributions to improving the quality of life and stewardship of our planet through the use of Earth science information."
