During the Lok Sabha elections, the Allahabad High Court dismissed a petition demanding the halt of the trial and cancellation of criminal proceedings against Congress Pradesh President Ajay Rai in a gangster case. Justice Sanjay Kumar Singh's single bench stated that there is no legal basis to halt the trial in this case. Ajay Rai and others face charges under the Gangster Act at the Chetganj police station in Varanasi. Considering Rai's criminal history, the High Court rejected the plea to halt the trial and cancel criminal proceedings. The trial in this case is ongoing in the MP/MLA Special Court in Varanasi.
