Children should not be taught to idolise “hard work”...

Growing up, I would a lot of times feel guilty for having cracked a test or exam without putting in 12 hours a day of study... when other people who actually studied more scored less...

I would feel that was unfair...

It also leads to a heightened impostor syndrome, where you think you don’t deserve something because you see other people working harder...

And then our definition of working harder is so set in the industrial revolution of over 200 years ago... which is getting generationally passed down...

The real lesson to teach is of “efficient work” which is a higher output to fewer inputs...

The unit of input used to be “time” or “number of hours” or “manual labour” earlier... which has now changed because of technology and AI tools...

If you’re still not using AI tools or idolising hard work, you’re living in denial...

And here’s the thing to preach - use the best resources for the desired output, where rank hours of work as the last priority when you find nothing else...

That way, the mindset is right and will lead to the next generations being smarter, more efficient, more innovative, and continuing to have a balance that the previous generations couldn’t afford.
