Sharing the full video of Taal Rupak (7 beats cycle) that I learnt from my Guruji Taalyogi Pt. Suresh Talwalkar ji and presented it as Gurudakshina during the Guru Abhivadan Sohla in 2017.

Taal presentation is a very important part of Kathak dance repertoire. In this presentation, a certain Taal (rhythmic cycle of fixed number of beats) is chosen and is explored and established through a variety of beautiful compositions like Thaat , Aamad, Toda, Paran, Chakradar, Tihai, Tatkar, Parmelu and so on. Taal prastuti displays the Nritta or the technical aspect of Kathak presentation which deals with intricate Layakari / rhythm, displayed through beautiful visual forms consisting of fluid and sharp Kathak movements or the Kathak Ang , extensive Tatkar or footwork, lyrical recitation or Padhant and varieties of beautiful chakkars or spins/pirrouttes. Guruji's compositions are so versatile and musical and perfectly suiting the chosen Taal but at the same time they are extremely complex in terms of laya and challenging to perform (only possible with consistent long hours of extensive and vigorous riyaz). Choreographing these beautiful gems and giving justice to the aesthetic of each and every bandish is even more challenging (Only possible with the guidance of my Gurus, Guru Shambhavi Dandekar Tai and Guruji Taalyogi Pt. Suresh Talwalkarji). I have tried my best to choreograph and perform each and every amazing Bandish. I have definitely enjoyed performing this Taal. Hope you all also enjoy watching it.
