Joe Alt was a 3-star recruit hailing from Minnesota who took his talents to the University of Notre Dame once he graduated. As a freshman played in Alt played in 13 games starting 8 of those games only allowing 1 Quarterback hit, 7 hurries, and 3 sacks. Sophomore season Alt built upon his success from his freshman season starting all 13 games for the Fighting Irish allowing 6 hurries, 2 Quarterback hits ,and not allowing a single sack in a season that culminated with a TaxSlayer Gator bowl victory over South Carolina and being named a First Team All-American. Going into Alt’s junior season he continued his dominance starting in all 12 regular season games and only allowing 2 Quarterback hits, 2 hurries,and allowing only one sack that season. Alt was named as a Unanimous First Team All-American selection and being a Finalist for the Lombardi Award (the nation’s best lineman).
