Good day,

Given all the work lately worldwide we have seen the advent of numerous repositories of EEG Datasets or NeuroData sets, as evidenced by the NWB (NeuroData Without Borders). These datasets are used globally to further research in these areas, further collaboration and promote sharing of results.

It has been recognized to some degree through the work of organizations such as the NeuroRights Foundation that these datasets need to be properly secured to protect the rights of the individuals that provide this NeuroData, where these datasets can be used in numerous ways to identify individuals uniquely.

Given the results of UC Berkeley, as well as myself, we now know that these datasets may actually contain voice and ultimately human communications between individuals.

Once this technology achieves generic use-case capability it can be used on these data repositories and may reveal these communications. It is unknown at this time exactly how much and what risks this represents to an individual's privacy and security. This includes not only the researcher participant, the individual providing the NeuroData, but potentially other individuals as well.

Although some efforts have been made to properly assess the risks of these repositories and secure them appropriately, I am sure that this scenario has not yet been considered thoroughly.

This risk is this unknown and although most likely a low risk it is still something that should be considered going forward...

Historically we have always treated EEG Data as electrical signals, however with the proper conversion and enhancement we should be able to play back that data directly through a sound system...

This is essentially what UC Berkeley has already achieved and is something that needs to be properly researched and assessed for risk.
