Tornadoes ripped through the U.S. northeast on Wednesday, with the communities of Mullica Hill, New Jersey and Annapolis, Maryland left with destroyed homes, downed power lines and heavy damage as the remnants of Hurricane Ida moved through the area.

The governors of New York and New Jersey, Kathy Hochul and Phil Murphy, surveyed the damage in their respective states from what the latter called a "historic 24 hours," with at least six deaths being reported from the storms across multiple states.

Heavy rains also brought about stunning scenes in New York, with water rushing over subway cars, down stairwells into stations and plumes of water erupting from manhole covers.

While many communities are now picking up the pieces, parts of New England were also under watch for potential heavy storms as Ida continues its path northeast. Sean Previl reports.
