It is about the power of friendship and unity. The reference to "locking shields" refers to the spartan warriors who were unstoppable because they would interlock their shields to protect one another and were invincible because of this tactic. We believe that we as people when facing the battle of life need our friends to be like those spartan warriors to our left and right. We each protect each other from the attacks and trials that life brings and as long as we stay in that formation we are unstoppable.
