Recently youtube has been conducting an experiment where 0.3% of all youtube traffic will go through an algorithm to auto generate thumbnail and ignore existing custom thumbnails. So certain number of users will see auto generated thumbnail of a video instead of the uploader’s custom thumbnail. In this video we will explain how youtube is able to do this experiment (Canary deployment) from a software engineering point of view. At the end of the video i’ll add my 2 cents about this experiment.
