Video description / background:
Let's face it, for the majority of the time when you're splitboarding you interact with the mountain more like a skier, and there's a reason why skiers don't ski in softboots! To entirely ignore the 'ski-performance' (uphill AND downhill) of your splitboard setup means reducing efficiency by a large margin.
The ride to the bottom is also not as bad as you might imagine, since modern ski mountaineering boots are actually really soft... like..... probably too soft to really ski in, which makes them ideal for splitboarding.
Of course these setups are expensive, and they really only pay off, if you spend a solid amount of time using them and on longer ascents. However, the much greater efficiency of such a setup makes life so much easier that you'll likely splitboard more than you ever have!!
