Ukraine’s armed forced conducted military drills on Thursday (February 2) in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, next to the border with Belarus.

Drills involved Soviet-time self-propelled howitzers called 2S3 Akatsiya and aimed at increasing troops readiness in case of another Russian assault from the territory of Belarus.

Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council, told Ukrainian and international media he does not rule out another attack from the north, south and east around the date of February 24, the day when Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Military experts say Moscow appears determined to push forward in the coming months before Kyiv receives hundreds of newly pledged Western battle tanks and armored vehicles for a counter-attack to recapture occupied territory this year.

Chornobyl nuclear power station was seized by the Russian forces in the first days of Russian full-fledged invasion and they withdrew from the territory of the defunct plant in the end of March.
