‘Leave at the earliest’: India‘s advisory for its citizens as rebels seize major cities in Syria
It all started with Aleppo, the capture of which came as a shocker for Syrian President Bashar Assad. It was the first opposition attack on the city since 2016, when a brutal Russian air campaign retook the northwestern city for Assad after rebel forces had initially seized it.

Militants led by the group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) took control of the city of Hama on Thursday before moving south, capturing two key towns on the road south of the city before arriving in Al-Dar al-Kabera, a town five miles from the centre of Homs.

The Syrian government has also lost control of the southern city of Deraa and most of the eponymous province. The current offensive has upended the stalemate that was reached following the 14-year-long civil war in Syria.
