Preflighting an aircraft is an essential part of a safe flight. We are removing protective devices like static wick covers, engine covers, attaching the battery, checking fuel caps, setting the parking break (so chocks can be removed before engine start), and lots of other things.

As pilots, we're trained to use checklists and then, over time and with experience, we develop muscle and mental memory to complete the preflight... but, one should always review a checklist to ensure everything was completed. Nothing worse than taking off with some cover or door unlatched!
