Creative Links, a lecture presented at the University of Sydney in 2012 by the late Paul Pholeros. An alumnus of the University's Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning, Pholeros reveals the work undertaken in urban and rural communities across Australia and overseas by the not-for-profit organisation Healthabitat, which he cofounded. In 1985 Pholeros was challenged by the director of an Aboriginal health service in a small Indigenous community in South Australia to "stop people getting sick". This involved thinking beyond medicine. Pholeros implemented practical design fixes for essential health hardware eg fixing a leaking toilet, electrical repairs, supplying sufficient hot water, and having somewhere to wash a baby or child. The aim was to simply make houses safe and to enable occupants carry out healthy living practices. After fixing 7500 dwellings, evidence from the NSW Health Department showed a 40 per cent reduction in hospital admissions for infectious diseases in communities in which Healthabitat had worked.

Paul Pholeros graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Science Architecture in 1974 and a Bachelor of Architecture (Honours) in 1997. He was an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the University of Sydney from 1999 to 2011.
