Driving to work, I noticed a huge bull snake sunning on the road in the opposite lane. I stopped, pulled over to turn around, and had to wait for a big truck with duellies and pullilng a double axle horse trailer to go past (heading straight for the snake!) Wonderfully, all those wheels missed the snake, but he was curled up in a tight coil, very mad. I got out and tried to scare him off the road, but he wouldn't move. I tried throwing a few stray can at him, which just made him coil tighter and not want to move at all. I finally ran back to my car and got a trekking pole and lifted his heavy coiled body over to the side of the road. THEN, I thought that he was so lovely, I ought to take a picture of him. This is what happened! ...I use this film, by the way, now to show my students what happens when the amygdalae in the brain sense danger before the frontal lobe does. Gets them every time.... :D
