During a prolonged spell of wet weather Ed is confined to the house and puts his regular video-making adventures on hold. In the comfort of a warm dry interior he decides to make soup and talk about the economy, as you do.

Following an initial preamble where Ed takes viewers through the process of making homemade onion soup, Ed retires to the lounge (do we still call it that?) and mulls over a failing UK economy that is probably experiencing a terminal decline.

The United Kingdom is witnessing severe financial turmoil. There is no more money. Anywhere. Practically every sector and walk of life in the UK is having to deal with financial cutbacks so severe they are struggling to stay afloat. The NHS is struggling due to a lack of money; our roads are falling apart due to a lack of money; the police force is struggling due to a lack of money; our armed forces are struggling due to a lack of money; the Civil Service and the very Government itself is struggling due to a lack of money. Every single area of today's once great United Kingdom is struggling due to a lack of funds.

And all the while the profit from major industries once in public hands is being siphoned off and taken by shareholders in foreign lands: water companies, power companies, etc.

What happened? What happened to the UK to cause this spiral of decline?

We were at one time one of the world's richest economies, spearheading a great British Empire whose economic structure was the envy of the world. Our industries and output was so great that even children were lining their pockets through work.

What happened?

Margaret Thatcher, that's what happened. Her efforts to privatise practically everything that moved has essentially destroyed the UK. Other countries now profit from our misery; foreign fat-cats bleed us dry.

Most of what we now use in our daily lives comes from abroad. Our once-great industries like salt-making, textiles, coal mining and steel production are no more. We don't make things like we used to, and as a result the economy is not just stagnant, but in terminal decline. I don't even think we can make our own underwear. How embarrassing is that?

Is it really any wonder to those so-called learned men of Westminster that we are now an impoverished nation up to our ears in debt and unable to provide the most basic of services properly to the population?

The Government at Westminster has failed us.
