How to Speak about the Future: Future Time Clauses

What do you know about Future Time Clauses? Their meaning, their grammar, their structure…? Let’s pretend I tell you: “When I have some money, I will buy a new computer”

Is this sentence about the present, past or future? “When I have some money” uses Present grammar but is its meaning present as well? Nope!! The meaning is Future! One day, in the future, whenever I have some more money then… “I will buy a new computer”.

This sentence is an example of what we call FUTURE TIME CLAUSES. We use Future Time Clauses to talk about real future possibility or, in other words, to talk about what we think that will possibly happen in the future.

We’ll see that to use this type of constructions, we’ll need a Time Clause containing some kind of time reference and introducing a particular situation, as well as a Main Clause containing the result of that situation.
