UNITED KINGDOM: SEATON BURN PIGEON RACING IN THE 1970'S

This short films provides a wonderful glimpse back to fun in another era.

The men and boys of Seaton Burn in North Tyneside can be seen gathering for each occasion, fathers, sons and grandfathers,
across the generations, enjoying the thrill of the races - feathered or furred - back in 1971.

It was all shot by Ronnie Kirkup, of Seaton Burn, North Tyneside, and Ronnie's son Garry kindly allowed us to edit his father's
atmospheric footage, which he must have spent many hours recording.

The clothes, cars and buildings of the time are the atmospheric background to
great days out - and nights at the club once the racing was over.

North Tyneside councillor Muriel Green, who loved seeing Ronnie's films, said:
"It is a snapshot in time about village life showing the pastimes of the miners who led
hard and dirty lives working underground, so liked to be out in the fresh air in allotments,
growing and showing leeks and flowers, and breeding and racing pigeons and whippets.

"Almost every person in the village at that time and some from Wideopen are in the film, so what
a wonderful way to bring back memories and show young people what their grandparents did when they were not at work."
