Did you know that Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is more common than you think? 😱 Some studies from the CDC have estimated that up to 20 million Americans are affected by this potentially sight-robbing disease.

❓What is AMD though?
AMD is a disease that affects your central vision by causing blurred vision or even vision loss.

❓What are some risk factors to look out for?
You are at a higher risk for developing AMD if you are over the age of 50, are of Caucasian (white) ethnicity, you have or had a smoking habit for a prolonged period of time, or eat a diet that is high in saturated fats.

During Healthy Aging Month remember that with AMD, as with most eye diseases, early detection is key to preserving sight. While currently there is no cure for AMD, there are treatments to help manage the condition.
