HERMITAGE
Skellig Michael lies off the westernmost tip of the Iveragh Peninsula,Co.Kerry.Between the 6th and 8th centuries the island
became a place of refuge from the world for a small settlement
of ascetic monks.Christian monasticism had its conceptual roots in the belief that union with God could best be attained by with drawl from civilisation into harsh and isolated regions.
I visited the island and spent a week there, not only to explore the island’s distant but also it’s recent past.This is not a historical account, but a visual diary, with chapters to denote plausible manifestations. Skellig remains aloof, a mystery, and majestic.It is above all-sublime.
