Dano does Vietnam - Thung Nang Boat Tour - is it better than Tam Coc?

Thung Nang belongs to Tam Coc – Bich Dong tourist area (Hoa Lu district), 7km from Ninh Binh city center. The waters here seems to a lot cleaner and sees a lot less traffic.

Thạch Bích wharf is just a short distance up road from Tam Coc wharf and once you are on the boat it is long before the lush fertile farmland gives way to the jagged limestone karst mountains, something that Ninh Binh is famous for.

Not quite as scenic as Tam Coc, Thung Nang is better known for its water lily's. October to the end of December is when water lilies bloom most beautifully. We visited in February, there were still plenty around however you need to visit early in the day before the blooms close.

Much like at Tam Coc, the rowers here practiced traditional foot rowing and I was impressed that even when using their feet, the rowers were able to role the oars as they cleared the water, just as you would do with your hands; if you are lucky enough they may even let you have a go at rowing for yourself 😊

One of the highlights of the tour was when the old lady started to sing a Vietnamese song whilst rowing. The water lapping against the hull and the splash of the oars as she sang was extra special, and it was even better in the quite of the cave.
