She has been recognized as an award winning songwriter and composer, her song, “Borderlands” was a finalist in the ACLU songwriting competition to illustrate the plight of immigrants crossing the border. Her song, "A Scene in Your Show", garnered an honorable mention in the International Singer Songwriter contest.

Erika has performed with notable ensembles such as the St Louis Symphony Orchestra, and has been a member of many jazz, rock, and world fusion groups. She performs classical and early music selections on both baroque flute and alto recorder.

She has recorded several cds - "Cat in the Hat" "Erika May & Friends" "La Luna Ladina" Erika May Live @ Robbie's House of Jazz". She improvises on flute*, sings, and plays guitar and cello. You'll hear Jazz Standards, and also songs in French, Spanish, Portuguese, think Edith Piaf, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Juan Tizol. She has added her flute and vocals on many recordings as a studio musician
