Repair Air Tools - Impact Wrench Repair/Service

How to repair air tools in this case an air impact wrench. Symptoms were a gradual reduction in power every time I used it until finally there was no power at all, it was bleeding all the air off with no turning.

Easier than I imagined and no service kit/rebuild kit required, all parts in the air impact wrench were metal. Giving the parts a good clean and lubricating them with engine oil had the impact wrench working like new. (I was using compressor oil in the impact wrench which could be why it lost power).

I believe this air impact wrench is a generic design, possibly from Taiwan. You can see identical looking impact wrenches with branding like Silverline, Harbor Freight, Boxer, Sealey, Ozito, Dr Air, Powermate, Boxer, ProlineMax and they can be found in many stores including Walmart and Harbor Freight.

Generally I have found it to be reliable (if serviced), power is good for most jobs but it is not a replacement for a breaker bar for really stuck-on nuts. I think torque is around 350NM and it has four power settings.
