A big protest took place in Malkangiri today. Hundreds of farmers gathered outside the Zilla Parishad Hall to oppose the involvement of Women SHGs in Paddy Procurement (Mandi).

While the Kharif procurement meeting was going on inside, farmers demanded the MP and Collector stop giving Mandi management duties to SHGs. Farmers alleged that SHGs are unable to manage the process properly, leading to harassment and an increase in Dalal Raj (Middlemen).
