Here it is! The Galway International Arts Festival 2018 programme. We’re so excited to be finally able to share this with you all. For tickets and more information, see: https://www.giaf.ie/
#GIAF18 features an exciting Irish and international programme of theatre, opera, dance, circus, music, spectacle, visual art, comedy and First Thought Talks featuring interviews and discussions on the theme of home.
Its theatre strand presents six world premieres and five Irish premieres, welcoming artists and theatre makers from across the world to Galway. Don't miss 'One of the outstanding elegies of the 20th century', Paul Muldoon's reimagined Incantata, circus acts Backbone and Humans, The New York Times Critics' Picks The Fall and Flight, two new works from Druid Theatre Company, the new opera production Orfeo ed Euridice, the 'phenomenal' The Aspirations of Daise Morrow, the 'extraordinary' Gardens Speak and a new Rooms installation, Office 33A from Enda Walsh.
The festival also continues to play a vital role in supporting new work and presents two exciting visual arts / installations commissions from Olivier Grossetête (The People Build) and David Mach (Rock ‘n’ Roll).
Galway will be the destination for artists across the musical spectrum, with acts such as The Flaming Lips, Madness, Caribou, 2FM Live with Jenny Greene and the RTE Concert Orchestra, Amadou & Mariam, the RTE Concert Orchestra Festival Proms, Kodaline, Walking on Cars and Gavin James headline the biggest line-up to date at the Heineken Big Top.
This year GIAF's discussion platform First Thought Talks shines a light on ‘Home’ in all its many forms, with talks from President Michael D Higgins, Holocaust survivor Tomi Reichental, Professor Roy Foster, Sebastian Barry, Andrew O'Hagan and many many more.
Street theatre includes the return of the 2017 smash hit The People Build from Oliver Grossetete, the awe-inspiring Museum of the Moon, the unique sensory experience, Miracoco Luminarium from Architects of Air, and a parade of skeletal, illuminated pterodactyls in Birdmen.
This year will also see the addition of the new Festival Garden to the programme. The home of the festival in the heart of Eyre Square will include an information hub and a lounge, where festivalgoers can relax and enjoy great food and drinks, occasional DJs and live sets from guest artists too.
