Our first performance was a traditional Chinese sword dance, with a history spanning over 2,000 years. Originally for warrior training, it now stands for grace and Confucian "junzi" virtue. Dancers in flowing hanfu wielded silver swords, blending soft, nature-aligned movements (echoing Taoist harmony) with sharp strikes—some knelt to vow protection, others twirled for justice. Guzheng and drum music shifted tempo, and the finale saw them bow with crossed swords, honoring strength and humility.
Next came a modern tribute to Black Myth: Wukong, reimagining the classic Journey to the West. The lead dancer, as Wukong, twirled a prop "Ruyi Jingu Bang" swiftly, while backup dancers used contrasting moves to reflect his inner struggle with pride and eventual choice to protect others. At the climax, he raised the staff to repel conflict, ending as a humble hero.
Together, the two shows revealed Chinese culture’s essence: the sword dance honors ancient values of harmony and respect, while the Wukong piece shows traditions adapt. They tell our story—cherishing the past, yet reimagining it.
