Khaled Shalaby, reporting for Middle East Eye onboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, described how the mission pressed forward toward Gaza despite severe weather overnight that forced five smaller boats to return to port. Organisers confirmed that all crews were safe and accounted for, and emphasised that the larger convoy remains intact.

The flotilla, which includes hundreds of participants from over 40 countries, is carrying humanitarian supplies and aims to challenge Israel’s blockade of Gaza while drawing attention to the worsening humanitarian crisis in the enclave. Doctors, journalists, parliamentarians, actors and human rights advocates are among those onboard, reflecting the broad international scope of the initiative.

Despite the early setbacks, organisers remain steadfast and are preparing to link with additional ships from Tunisia, Greece, and Italy in the coming days.
