I don't own any rights for the song or any parts of it.
"Talk To Me" was written in 1991, performed live in 1991-1992, never recorded by the band in a studio and never officially released as an audio track. The only official appearance the song made in Nirvana's catalog is the video of live performance in Seattle in October 1992 included to "With The Lights Out" DVD. It was the last time the song was played live.
Some audio tracks of "Talk To Me" played live appeared on various unofficial releases ("Outcesticide", "The Chosen Rejects", etc). The most heavily bootlegged version is live in Mezzago, Italy, on November 17, 1991. It can be found on "Outcesticide: In Memory of Kurt Cobain" and that's the one I use in the video. This was the second live performance of "Talk To Me", the song debuted a day before in Muggia, Italy.
In 1993, Kurt offered the song to Hole, and they even attempted a recording during the early "Live Through This" sessions. According to Courtney, the song "really sucked" on Hole, so they abandoned it, too. After Kurt's death Courtney, in turn, offered "Talk To Me" to Iggy Pop, but he declined.
It is confirmed that two demo takes of "Talk To Me" by Kurt exist and are stored in the infamous Nirvana "vaults". Cortney said, "It is still in the drawer, but it's getting cuter with age. So, when you hear it, it will be like a fine wine from him – all his Oingo/Boingo issues in one song".
The only thing known about these takes is that they're on the same tape with the demos of "Opinion", "Do Re Mi" and "You Know You're Right".
Smash the vaults!
Lyrics:
Shake it down easy, shake it down sleazy, come on
Shake it down easy, shake yourself, Suzy, come on
Don't let me detain you
Try to ride along
Don't you lie, knowing
I am not sad
I am not silly
I am not chippin'
I am not chippin' away
Talk to me
In your own language, please
In your own
Talk to me
In your own language, please
Shake it down easy, make it sound seamy, doll man
Make it sound now, make it full house, sad man
Leader of the band
Makes a mental hell
I won't weather it well
Well I never
Saw it with my arm
Paint it with my heart
Paint it with my eyes and make it right
Talk to me
In your own language, please
In your own
Talk to me
In your own language, please
Lay down easy, lay it down seamy, sad man
Lay down easy, lay it down seamy, sad man
You don't want to hear this
Nothin' but a whore
I will play the leader
With pain
Now you know I'm needy
Lay them down easy
Lay them down easy
Talk to me
In your own language, please
