San Remigio may be three hours away from Cebu City, but it is one of the most visited towns in Central Visayas. This is proven by statistics for foreign and domestic tourist arrivals from the Department of Tourism.
Mostly relying on farm lands and fishing over the years, it rose from obscurity after investor-confidence increased following a good showing by the municipal government, led by provincial legislator-turned local chief executive, Mayor Mariano R. Martinez.
The town takes pride in its long stretches of white sand beaches with crystal clear waters, the home base of popular accommodation establishments such as the San Remigio Beach Club, the Hagnaya Beach Club, and the Casa del Mar Golf, Polo and Beach Club, among others.  The town also has marine sanctuaries which encouraged the establishment of shops for beginners and experienced divers.
San Remigio is haven for those who seek serenity and calm. It also serves as a gateway to and from Bantayan island through the Hagnaya wharf.
Located 109 kilometers away from the Cebu Provincial Capitol building, it is on Cebu island’s northern tip, turning left at the crossroads in Bogo City.
San Remigio is a third class municipality with a little over 51,000 residents based on the 2010 national census and some 35,000 registered voters.
Formerly known as “Kanhagas” after the trees that used to abound in the area, San Remigio has 27 barangays within its territory and belongs to Cebu’s 4th legislative district
