Maddalena Archipelago

The archipelago consists of seven major islands: La Maddalena, Caprera, Budelli, Santo Stefano, Santa Maria, Spargi, Razzoli, plus several smaller islands. La Maddalena is the largest island, and many visitors limit their exploration of the archipelago to visiting it alone.

The archipelago has a total coastline of more than 180 kilometers and more than 300 beaches. Some of them are often considered among the most beautiful beaches in the world.

The archipelago has the status of a national park, meaning it is a protected area with the aim of adequately protecting the natural treasures and biodiversity of the archipelago. The park is home to protected animal species: e.g. large, beautiful species of mussels living near the seabed, as well as luminous jellyfish (Pelagia noctiluca) and compass jellyfish (Chrysaora hysoscella) swimming/floating near the shore, with transparent tentacles, as well as loggerhead and leatherback turtles (these turtles nest on the surrounding beaches and feed near the shore), as well as bottlenose dolphins and common dolphins (sometimes seen in the waters surrounding the park).

The Maddalena Islands are famous for their stunning beaches, such as Spiaggia Rosa (Pink Beach), Spiaggia del Cavaliere, Cala Corsara and Spiaggia Testa di Polpo, which have crystal clear waters and velvety sand.
