The University of Guelph Physics and Astronomy Club have been successful in their Guinness World Record attempt for the World’s Largest Elephant’s Toothpaste!

The Physics Department is now considered ‘Officially Amazing’ after receiving confirmation from Guinness World Records in London England that their record has been approved.

On May 9, 2019 as part of the Science Olympics and in front of a crowd of hundreds of high school science students, teachers, and University of Guelph colleagues the Physics and Astronomy Club joined forces with Orbax and Pepper Do Science to generate 21.04 cubic metres of foam, handily defeating the previous record of 13 cubic metres.

Their scaled up version of the popular tabletop home experiment used over 50 L of 30% hydrogen peroxide along with 10 L of KI.

When asked for a quote, Orbax (Science Communication Officer for the Dept of Physics) said ‘Our goal was to not only break a Guinness World record but, more importantly, was to inspire young people into pursuing science. I think it’s fitting that this announcement should be made during the first week back to University where we can hopefully inspire even more young people and show them that even though their studies can get stressful and difficult in the coming weeks, science can still be a fun and exciting adventure!’
