This romance op5 (andante cantabile in F minor) was composed by Piotr Tchaikovsky around the month of October 1868, one of the least prolific years of his composing career. At that time,Tchaikovsky was in love with Désirée Artôt, a Belgian singer, to whom he was devoting all his time and thoughts. The only musical witness of their romance is this piece opus 5, which he dedicated to his lady friend.
