However, according to the temple tradition, only Hindus are allowed entry.

Since Sonia Gandhi belonged to the Christian faith, she was not permitted to enter the temple.

Rajiv Gandhi requested the King of Nepal to intervene, but the King refused to interfere with the age-old tradition of the temple.

According to ABP News, after this incident Rajiv Gandhi adopted a strict stance against Nepal.
