Cedar is a species of tree that is found all over the world, Western Red Cedar is native to the British Columbia area of Canada, it grows in cool temperate climates with a lot of moisture. So typically along the coast, what you'll find with Western red cedar vs. other Cedar Products are first off the actual color of the species so with Western Red cedar you're going to get a lot more Auburn a lot more deeper Reds, and a lot more color than you would with a an inland cedar or an Eastern Cedar product. The other nice thing about Western red cedar is that it's considered an older growth products so older growth means it's slower growing trees that haven't been harvested as fast and with that you get a better quality fiber that's more stable and more consistent so when using old growth fiber that material is going to stay in place you're not going to see as much shrinking and your not going to see as much swelling when it goes up on the wall. The other thing that's really nice about Western Red Cedar is that it contains a ton of natural oil and residents that are resistant to rot decay and insects so it's really one of the only species of wood out there naturally acts as a defense against those common issues that plague wood products Western Red Cedar has been installed for literally hundreds of years, the colonists were using it on their houses originally when they came to America and we're still using it today it kind of goes to the longevity and the quality of the product and it's truly something that only mother nature can produce and no one else can replicate.
