First responders joined the guests at Steven Weiss and Shawna Magence's recent Jewish wedding Nov. 16 in Boca Raton, Florida after the groom's breaking of the glass ritual resulted in a serious injury to his right foot. The glass sliced through his dress shoe, and would need nine stitches in hospital. The ceremony had to be interrupted while the wedding guests escorted the paramedics with the groom on a stretcher towards the waiting ambulance.
But the nuptials continued inside the ambulance, and then the rest of the wedding reception continued–without him. The bride, a Canadian from Toronto, says the newlyweds have now taken the accident in stride as just another sign from heaven that formalizing their unexpected, late-in-life second chance at love, was never going to have a smooth path.
