About one month ago, ‪@hutchmoto‬ came up to Asheville for the weekend to hang out and ride together! He had been hanging with his family in Telico Plains, riding motorcycles on the SM500 route. I didn't get to join them, but Tyler made it a point to come out and ride with me when his family packed up camp and headed home.

I had to work on that Saturday and Tyler showed up at my work around the time the store closed. We headed back to my place and went out to get some dinner. We had burgers down in the River Arts District and planned our route for the following day. Tyler wanted to ride Yellow Gap Road since it was re-opened and since he had never been on it. We decided we'd make a long winding loop out to Brevard where we could refuel the bikes and ourselves before heading back up some dirt roads. From here we'd make our way onto 276 and up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Then, we'd make our way out to Richland Balsam which is the highest point of the Parkway.

Our day started off pretty easy. We left around 11am after having some coffee and breakfast. We rolled out through Bent Creek and Mills River with relative ease. It was Father's Day, and so it was extremely busy in the main parking areas. Once we were on Yellow Gap we saw only campers and cyclists. We caught a few cars along the way but made it to 276 unscathed. It had gotten extremely hot and we decided we needed to cool down and so we made our way down to Brevard where we refueled and relaxed for a bit. Once we were feeling up to the task we hopped back on the bikes and started back into the forest. We ripped up FS477 until we came around a corner were we met a car that had stopped to warn us about a coiled rattlesnake in the middle of the road. We warned the cyclist behind us and we sat for a few minutes and watched as he made his way off the road. The snake made sure shake his rattler at us as he slid off the dirt and into the bushes. "That's enough excitement I thought to myself..."
