We in the house have consistently said we don't want to shut government down, we just want to cut spending. As far as the budget's concerned our budget chairman is here. He is going forward with a markup this week of the larger picture within which we operate this current spending fight for this year. Obviously, the American people understand that we are spending too much money, spending money we don't have and it's critical that we get our fiscal house in order so that we can begin to grow this economy again.

The president gave us a budget a month ago that doubles the debt by the end of his first term and triples it by the end of his budget. He punted on debt reduction. We're not going to do that. We think we owe it to our constituents to our children and grandchildren to give them a budget that pays off the national debt. To give them a budget that makes health and retirement security something that's real. We want to give them a budget that actually grows jobs and economic growth. This is a budget that creates economic growth. Job creation. It's a budget to pay off our national debt. It's a budget to get our fiscal track on the right track. So we believe we have have a moral responsibility to step in and provide the leadership that the president has not been providing.
