Just 20 minutes inland from Airlie Beach, you will find the charming town of Proserpine.

Named by the explorer George Dalrymple, after Proserpina the goddess of grain and harvest, recognising the fertile qualities in the region. Since the late 1800s, cattle grazing and sugar cane have been the economic mainstays here.

Although it has many modern facilities (including a hospital, schools, library and sporting facilities), the main street's well preserved 'art deco' shop architecture is a reminder of how life used to be. Old-fashioned courtesies thrive in Proserpine, particularly at the local shops and country-style hotels. Make sure you venture off the main street in Proserpine to find some hidden gems of stores located in the alleyways around the main street. You will find an excellent counter lunch at any of the quaint-country pubs along the main street, be sure to have a yarn with the friendly locals.

The Proserpine Waterpark and community pool is a great spot to enjoy a cool off during the warm tropical months. With beautifully landscaped gardens and interactive water play areas and slides, this is an ideal spot for families and entry is free!
