According to the chronicle history Jala: Pyakha is reputedly the first mask dance of Nepal. Jala: Pyakha is performed in the village Jala (Harisiddhi), Lalitpur located about 4 Km away from Lagankhel, Patan and 9 Km from Capital city Kathmandu. The people who lives in Jala are called Jalmis. The four main gates facing 4 directions are the main gate ways to enter the temple of Jala: Dhyah (Harisiddhi Mandir).

The 18 hour long full performances of Jala: Pyakha (Harisiddhi Naach) was performed by 29 Newar Jalmi priest and many other followers obeying Jalmi priest. The full dance drama is held twice a year, one on Yomari Puni (the full moon of Mansir) and another on Holi ( the full moon of Falgun).
Besides the full performances of the drama, there are other special occasions when some of the Jaladyah deities and priests are invited to perform for sponsored special pujas which we do call it the “Panchabali Puja”, and similarly on 10th day of Dashain (mhoni). On those performances partly ‘pyakha’ (dance) shown along with Sacrifies.
